Ashton ""Pebble Grain" 2001 Bulldog XX Patent

The late Bill Taylor, like Alfred Dunhill before him, took the unusual path of patenting a pipe finish, in this case, the "Pebble Shell," which combined rustication and sandblasting to produce a dramatic etched surface. This is a handsome example, a Group 5 sized classic diamond-shanked bulldog with tapered "Ashtonite" bit. Note the slight dilation in the middle of the shank, which conveys visual interest, and attests to the fact that the pipe was cut by hand. Virtually unsmoked condition.
