"Nachbauer" gibt es ja auch genug. Denk mal an den Exil-Hausmeister, der mit seiner Yamaha ausgewandert ist, von dem höre ich auch nichts mehr in den Newslettern, die ich bekomme.

Nachbasteleien sind wohl noch nicht sammelwürdig...?

Joao Reis verdient viel mehr Beachtung, als Du sie ihm offenbar zu zollen bereit bist. Sieht man von der "Ramses" ab (welcher wilde Wambo ihn da wohl geritten hat ?), handelt es sich eben nicht um Nachbauten. Der Mann wird dieser Tage dreißig. Mit zwanzig hat er seine Zelte in Portugal abgebrochen, ist nach Dänemakk zu Kai Nielsen gezogen und hat dort das Pfeifenbauen von Grund auf gelernt, hat Poul Ilsteds Laden unsicher gemacht und später mit Jörgen Nielsen eine Werkstatt geteilt. Dass das prägt, sieht man an seinen Shapes, wen darf das wundern? Kopien baut er aber normalerweise nicht. Seine Cobras sind erstklassig, und mit seinem "Dragontail" gibts sogar ein Signature-Shape.

Nach vielen Jahren der Boheme (die war erbärmlich, wurde aber mit bewundernswerter, südländischer Leichtigkeit ertragen), kehrte mit seiner dänischen Frau Ordnung in sein Leben ein. Er wohnt jetzt in einem sehr schönen großen Haus in Korinth bei Faaborg auf Fünen und hat endlich eine eigene, bestens ausgestattete Werkstatt. Die wird dieser Tage zum 10-jährigen Pfeifenbauerjubiläum und aus Anlass des 30. Geburtstags eingeweiht. Da gibts dann Tuborg ohne Ende, viel mehr, als die trinkfestesten der Kollegen werden vernichten können. Wäre gern dabei, kann aber leider nicht.

ja, wenn ich meine meinung nicht mal ein bischen bissig schreibe, wird's ja auch nicht gelesen.

Ich sehe eben ohne Detailskenntnisse der Lebensführung mehr auf auf das Endprodukt. Und das ist mir zu traditionell, langweilig dänisch.
Ich würde aber nie behaupten, dass seine Pfeifen nicht sauber gearbeitet sind, aber es wird eben nicht dänischer, wenn man Horn dranmacht und dann ein Mundstück dran macht, dass es aus Italien auch als Pressling gibt....

Du sollst ja hier auch nicht Kollegenschelte betreiben. nur muss ich bei den gezeigten Pfeifen ja kein Blatt vor die Schnüss nehmen. Allerdings dem "Staubwedelholm" kann ich wiederrum mehr abgewinnen. Damit haste sicher gerechnet.

"Joao Reis was born in Lisbon, Portugal on June 22 of 1978. As many pipe aficionados will tell you, there are very few, if any, pipe carvers resident in Portugal. So how did Mr. Reis and pipe carving join to make such a perfect bond? For one, woodworking was a passion that Joao obtained at a very early age. He started his career as a cabinet-maker at the age of fifteen. It was also about this time that Joao's love and fascination with pipe collecting began to materialize. He became a member the Pipe Club of Portugal. From there, it was only a matter of time.

In 1998 that he first made a pipe for a friend of his at the Portugal Pipe Club and continued from there making pipes, although without a vast majority of tools of the pipemakers trade.

In 2003 he came to the World Cup in Slow Smoking in Barcelona, Spain. Here he displayed some of the innovative design work that he was soon destined to perfect. At the show he met and befriended Kai Nielsen, famed Danish pipe artisan. Soon thereafter, he came to Denmark where he stayed and studied pipe making under Kai and his brother, Jorgen Nielsen. He also studied pipemaking under a number of revered and highly respected artisans in Denmark such as Poul Ilsted and Tom Eltang.

In 2004, Joao's work first appeared at the Chicago Pipe Show where his meteoric talent was in full display. After word spread and Joao's skilled continued to be refined under superior tutelage, it was only a matter of time before this artisan could be called as one of the best young pipe carvers working today. Today, Joao carves about 150 pipes a year in just about any shape, freehand derivitave, or wholly unique creation. He also uses a number of inserts on his work as well as a variety of different finishes and different stains.
