DESCRIPTION: “Viking” Unsmoked; I suppose one could argue that this an organic calabash, or assign a mental title of ‘mushroom’, but the one thing that I think all briar aficionados would agree upon is the fine beauty of this presentation. This ‘shroom’ is graded as a ‘Viking’, Tonni’s pinnacle mark for shape and grain, and was made back in the day when the Dane had recently arrived in the US and was stamping his pipes ‘Kentucky’. The shaping isn’t merely ‘inspired by nature’, the form of the body is so palpably soft and yielding that it takes on the very anima of nature herself. In the best Danish tradition, the pure organicism of the rim is anchored with a solidly architectural body and shank, and the impression of graceful elongation created via Tonni’s execution of the shank and bit is (as always) impeccable. This pipe is unsmoked, and waiting for you to send her on her maiden voyage. Bon Voyage… .
