Ein weiterer dänischer Pfeifenmacher der Spitzenklasse ist Teddy Knudsen.

Außergewöhnlich schöne Pfeifen, die aber ihren Preis haben.

Beispielfotos von seiner HP

Zitat:
"This is only the second "Popeye" to grace my desk. OK, the first wasn't on my desk, but this one is! We all know where Teddy got the idea for this shape, and an all briar version far exceeds an ear of corn. The bowl shows nice grain on almost the entire surface, and the shank's left side is by far the best. This pipe is actually made of two pieces of briar turned and mated with grain that looks like it's from one piece (it would really bug me if the grain didn't match so well). As you can guess, this sits very well and will, no doubt, be a treasure in your collection.

Smooth Bent Dublin Sitter

Zitat:
"The profile of the piece is nothing short of extraordinary. The elegantly flowering bowl reaches upwards and forwards as if towards the sun from the small pedestal-sitter base. Terminating into intricate, beautiful plateau, the flame grain that covers the bowl is quite impressive. But, perhaps that's not the most extraordinary thing about the shape. In many ways, a shape like this is made by the shank and stem: poor aesthetic choices there can make the most elegantly shaped of bowls seem inelegant. But, as one might expect of a master of Teddy's supreme caliber, he handles the shape of the shank deftly, beautifully, and coherently. The gentle curvature of the oval shaped shank seems to echo the lines created by the front and back of the bowl. The shank also flutes slightly as it approaches each end, both at the bowl and at the end of the shank. These lines are sustained through the olivewood mount attached to the stem, serving as a cap to the end of the shank. Further, by keeping the length of the stem very short, Teddy has accentuated the sweeps of the bowl, maintaining the lines, but deemphasizing the stem itself.

To say that Teddy is brilliant is redundant. No one questions his place in the great pantheon of the world's best pipe makers. To actually behold a pipe of his just reinforces and confirms that sentiment.

-- Sykes Wilford"

Smooth Bent Dublin (Eagle)

Zitat:
"The pipe possesses just three surfaces: the end of the shank, the shank and bowl, and the rim. The graduation from the fluted end of the shank, pinching down, only to explode into the perfectly executed dublin shaped bowl. The shape of the rim and the end of the shank reflect each other, both convex surfaces, echoing each other and the lines of the bowl. The flaring of the end of the shank reflects the flaring into the dublin shaped bowl. Not only does the end of the shank reflect the shape of the rim, but if an imaginary arc were carried from the bottom of the end of the shank, over the top of the bowl, it would be carried again by the angle of the rim (imagine drawing a curve to connect the top of the end of the shank to the back of the rim).

And, of course, as one might expect on a Teddy Eagle grade, the grain is magnificent. Superb flame grain covers the bowl, radiating down the length of the shank, with just a small patch of birdseye at the center of the heel of the bowl. The birdseye on the rim and the end of the shank is perfectly placed and intricate.

This is an exceptional composition in every respect. From the shape to the grain to the, of course, engineering and finishing, there's a reason that Teddy Eagle graded pipes are considered such masterpieces. And this one certainly deserves that august designation.

-- Sykes Wilford"
