Dunhill 1933 Root Shape T472/LB Billiard with "Cumberland" Bit

From the second year of the now famous Root finish comes this very large "LB" shaped pipe, whose shape number is the relatively rare T472, at that time a slightly larger and stouter version of the LB. It's cut from very densely grained briar, showing birdseye on both sides of the bowl and notably rich color. It is fitted with the famous "Cumberland" variegated vulcanite bit on a conventional tenon (rather than the rather tricky and unpopular "vernon" aluminum tenon with which many early Roots were delivered). Condition is excellent but for weak nomenclature on one side. A very rare, desireable piece.
