Dunhill 1959 Root DRC Long Stemmed Billiard

The Calabrian briar that Dunhill had specified for the Root finish had wonderful smoking properties, but rather small burls with little straight grained cortex. This is why DR's are so rare, and so desirable. The DRC was especially so, for while there were higher grades, they were almost never seen in this period. In addition to stunning grain and color, it shows the expert execution one finds in the early post-War period, of a quality equal or superior to the pre-War pipes. This is because the apprenticeship trained craftsman of many years experience were entrusted with pipes of this quality. It's a charming old-fashioned shape, whose small group 4 billiard bowl with tubular shank is fitted with an ivory-dotted, extra-long, handcut taper bit, giving the pipe as especially jaunty, elegant appearance. It's in virtually pristine condition.
