Upshall "A" Tradition Bulldog Variation
Barry Jones has cut an unusual variation on the bulldog shape. The bowl has a convex rim, deeply cut triple beading, and rather than tapering smoothly toward the rounded bottom. there is a smooth but distict step that is most pronounced on the front of the bowl and merges smoothly with the rear of the bowl. It has a very stout cylindircal shank, and and extra long saddle bit. The grain is quite astounding, which accounts for its inclusion in the ultra-high end "Tradition" series which starts at approximately $1500 when new. The condition is excellent in all particulars.

Upshall Bent Billiard
A large, curvaceous classic bent billiard from Barry Jones of Upshall. The nomenclature is buffed at the critical location, so we cannot determine the grade, but I suspect, based upon the grain it is most likely a "P". It's very well executed, of ODA capacity, and should be a most satisfying smoker, especially with English mixtures. Apart from the nomenclature, excellent condition.

Upshall "B" Classic Dublin
Barry Jones certainly knows what to do with a beautifully grained piece of Grecian briar---make a classic Dublin to take best advantage of the grain. Upshall B's have escalated dramatically in price in recent years--they now stand in excess of $1000. While this might make sense if they sported a white dot, I find it a bit excessive. So I have priced this pipe to reflect its value more accurately. So, depending upon your perspective, it's either an amazing bargain or simply a very good value. In either case, it is likely to please, as it is well made, carefully finished, and in virtually pristine condition.

Upshall "B" Silver Spigot Dublin
Barry Jones of Upshall is at his best when he makes purely classical shapes. Consider this beautiful "B" grade Dublin. The lines are elegant and rounded, with a rather long, tubular shank. The naturally finished briar shows parallel grain all around and down the shank. That shank is fitted with a sterling cup made by the great Les Wood, into which the matching spigot on the handcut vulcanite taper bit is fitted. All in all, a first rate, high grade hand made British pipe in outstanding condition in all regards.

Upshall "P" Bent Billiard Stack
The term "bent billiard stack" hardly does justice to the elegance and fluidity of this shape. It reminds me of an early Sven Knudsen Swan or an Ed Burak in its balance and refinement--quite unusual for Barry Jones, whose taste generally runs to the more conventional classic shapes. The excellent straight/flame grain further accentuates the lines. I regard this as a first rate example of a hand made pipe.

Upshall "P" Bent Sitter Saddle Bit
Barry Jones has cut what is for him a rather daring pipe. One could see it either as a flat bottomed billiard, or a variation on a the old "Cherrywood" or "Friendly" shape. Like them, it sits firmly on its flat base, and has a tubular shank that emerges fluidly to meet with the comfortable saddle bit. The grain is quite striking on one side, though it peters out and becomes rather swirly on the other, thus missing a higher B or even G grade. But it promises to become a favored part of your rotation, and is in first rate condition in all regards.
