From the personal collection of the world's most distinguished Barling collector comes this remarkable Barling Straight Grain. Over the past 30 years, this collector has had the time and the means to hunt down and acquired only the finest examples that Barling made. This is one such, a large, beautifully cut Canadian with saddle bit, one that is properly graded as a "Straight Grain." Its' proportions, cut, and quality of materials and execution are of the highest order. It has been carefully smoked and cherished, and is in superb condition.

Barling c. 1940 Guinea Grain Canadian--Unsmoked!
A lovely pre-War Guinea Grain, carefully preserved by its owner in the original box with silk sleeve. The pipe shows first rate grain and color, is expertly cut by hand, and is in perfect condition, as is the box and sleeve. An extremely rare opportunity.

Barling c. 1950 EXEXEL Guinea Grain Canadian

Pre-Transition Barlings are as a rule cut from excellent briar and are notably well-proportioned; hence their popularity with collectors. But this example is almost achingly beautiful in both cut and grain, taking it into a very rarified stratum indeed. The bowl is tall, almost to the point of exceeding classical dimensions. The shank, which emerges with great fluency from the rear of the bowl, is elegantly long and subtly tapered. Meanwhile, flame grain radiates over the entire surface of bowl and shank, with birdseye top and bottom. Nomenclature is especially sharp and clear, and the pipe is in virtually pristine condition in every regard. If a pipe in this price range can be considered a great value, this one surely is.

Barling Transitional Quaint Canadian

Jamieson's "tribal" styel carving, and the offset foursquare bowl, combined with the long oval shank and the old Algerian briar identify this pipe as one made during the family era, but sold afterwards--the prototypical "Transitional" Barling. The new owner will enjoy all the celebrated virtues of the older Barlings at a very attractive price, respresenting an excellent value.

The size is comparable to an EXEXEL, and the condition is first rate in all regards.
