My name is Enrico Marola. I was born January 25, 1960 in Vercelli, Italy. Vercelli is approximately halfway between Milan and Torino in northwest Italy. I have lived there for most of my life. I now live there with my wife, Donatella, my son, Matteo and our sweet little dog, Kim.

I am a watchmaker by profession. I repair watches for a well known Swiss brand in the shop of an official dealer in my town. I began the job 30 years ago by working with my father. My grandfather was also a master watchmaker and I have continued the family tradition.

I began smoking a pipe 33 years ago when I was 17 and have continued to smoke pipes. My favorite tobaccos are Virginia flake, natural or aromatic, and English mixtures light in latakia. I also love to smoke strong tobaccos of the Italian tradition or Semois from Belgium.

I began to made pipes in 1998 after meeting Bruto Sordini, master carver of Don Carlos pipes. Looking at his pipes and watching him work, I was inspired to make my first pipes. The work was hard and I had much to learn. After many phone conversations with Bruto, his knowledge helped me to carve something I could call a pipe.

Because Bruto did not live near me, I searched for other pipe makers in my vicinity to help me learn. Vilma Armallini and Luigi Crugnola offered to teach me. From Vilma I learned how to use the rotary abrasive disc. Luigi gave me much information only a veteran pipe make can know.

I first sold pipes in 2007 at the Festa della Pipe(pipe show) in Cagli, Italy. There I met many important Italian pipe makers.

I began my carving by making the classic shapes to learn how a pipe is made. After, I searched for my personal style that is a fusion of classic and free hand. I am curious and want to try all shapes. Often I begin to carve with one shape in mind but while carving it changes because the briar suggests another shape to me.

I have worked on my own to find the correct diameter of the draft hole. I smoke many of my own pipes and believe they are a satisfying smoke.

My pipes must be dry. They must allow multiple smokes a day and be infatigable.

I obtain my briar from Tuscany and Calabria. The briar is seasoned for 2 – 3 years in a very dry underground space. Before using any briar purchased at the same time, I make a pipe for myself to test if it is ready.

My pipes are made by hand. I use only a column drill, a band saw and an abrasive rotating disc. I prefer a smooth finish but if a pipe shows more than one black dot(sand pit), I will rusticate it.

I generally us a light stain and try to bring out the natural grain of the briar. I finish with a polishing of carnauba wax. The mouthpiece can be in ebonite or Lucite and has a Teflon, no break tenon.

The name of my pipe is Enricoro. This is a combination of my name, Enrico, and my profession, orologiaio(watchmaker),Enric + oro = Enricoro. This was suggested to my by Bruto Sordini and out of respect for him, I adopted it. For my logo in the mouthpiece, I use a piece of a watch. It is a perforated brass signet with a 2mm hole in the center.

I make my pipes in my free time. It is not important to me how many pipes I make. It is important that they smoke well and that they are the best I can do. I am a pipe smoker and I want those who smoke my pipes to have great enjoyment and satisfaction.

Making pipes is very relaxing for me. It is wonderful to see a pipe “born” and to hear good responses from my customers. It brings me great satisfaction and makes me push myself to do better.

My other great passion is the mountains. I love to go for long walks in the wild mountains with my dog, Kim. I can relax my mind.

My dream is to live in the mountains and to only make pipes, but we cannot always have everything we want in life.

Sind unter den zehn für uns reservierten Pfeifen zwei darunter, welche mich auf Anhieb ansprechen. Mit dem kürzlichen Kauf, teilweise Bestellung von noch anzufertigenden insgesamt vier Pfeifen ist mein diesbezügliches Budget für dieses Jahr ausgeschöpft. Kommt für mich also zur Unzeit, Dein Engagement. Obwohl diese schönen Damen filterlos sind, somit auch in dieser Beziehung bestens für mich. Für andere wohl weniger.
Danke für die Arbeit, welche Du Dir um die Pfeife, die Pfeifenmacher und uns machst! Hoffe, es kommt im nächsten Jahr zu einem weiteren Angebot und ich kann dann dabei sein.

Hallo Bernd,

sicher kann da noch mehr kommen, ich hoffe das sehr. Und wie gesagt, die Preise sind die offiziellen amerikanischen Preise...

Mir geht's ja auch darum, hier im Forum Pfeifen zu zeigen und anzubieten, die es woanders nicht gibt. Bei Enrico ist es auch so, wie bei den Matteopfeifen. Wer drauf wartet, daß sie bei ebay verschleudert werden, der irrt und muss lange warten.

Ich hoffe natürlich, das Enrico's Pfeifen Gefallen finden. Gleich kommt noch ein Video... ;-)

Kein Problem Bernd, so wie ich Enrico kennengelernt habe, macht ihm das gerade auch viel Spass...
